Hello Everyone,
I have decided to write on this because its been often neglected by many. We all know the week has been hectic, there is still a lot more to do and accomplish. We try to console ourselves to give out much to get the best of the day. Its a great pity that even the weekends are not spared.
I've been there before and I just love working, getting to do stuffs even on weekends. I can hardly stay home when a million and one things are running through my mind and must be done, but I've come to realise that in increasing your productivity, you must be willing to conserve and most importantly renew your physical and mental energy. Your input determines your output.
One of the great ways to start is to plan your weekends. Would share a few bits that can help you unwind during the weekend. I've implemented some of these and it has been so much helpful .
1. REST:
Rest is essential to revive the body and boost productivity. Taking a nap during the week day and a substantial number of hours during the weekend is important in renewing both your physical and mental energy. I would recommend at least 7 to 8 hours of night sleep and about 20 to 30mins of a mid- week or afternoon nap during the day.
Here are a few benefits of napping:
It keeps you sharp, reduces mental fatigue and improves mental performance.
It helps to improve your memory and your ability to think critically and creatively.
It refreshes your emotional state.
It rejuvenates you.
To get the best out of life or at work you must plan your napping hours during the week days and weekends as well. God understood the importance of rest and on the 7th day after working through the week , He rested.
So make out time to rest, remember if you don't plan for it, you would never do it.
2. RECREATION:
You must spend time discovering what you love. It could be a sporting activity or any other activity that interest you. Find out ways to incorporate activities you love, but never get around doing, because of a busy week or weekend work load. The weekends are a good time to rest and reflect.
I would like to share a few things I decided to inculcate in my weekend getaway plan :
At least twice in a month, I go for stage plays on areas of interest to me.
This is something so dear to my heart, I go for street evangelism.
I try to do something new at least once in a month. This month my dream sport is to play golf.
I do a lot of reading as well and reflection during the weekend.
I attend seminars and workshops on my area of interest.
Love playing tennis as well.
I always plan my " ME TIME". I take myself out.
Others: Canoeing, a visit to the cockpit, try joining a club (Intellectual and fun).
You just need to find something of interest to you to engage yourself. To keep you refreshed and give you a better and fresh perspective of life. What ever you choose to do, there must be a purpose to it. As you relax, look for opportunities to learn and be inspired.
3. RELATIONSHIP:
Weekends are great times to build on our relationship with God, family, friends and spouses. One of the things I hope to inculcate when I get married by Gods grace is to have a date night with my hubby at least once in a month. What ever you don't invest in, cannot grow. This is to married couples. Spend time with your spouse and family. Create a memorable weekend that the kids can cherish and anticipate after a long week. You can decide to have a bible quiz or a gospel book reading at home, a cooking competition or family vacation. Do something creative. Life is too short . Create traditions and memorable moments with those you love and that love you. Remember, it takes planning. You must plan and clock it in your diary.
4. REFLECTION:
This is a good time to reflect on life, work, ministry and anything thats on your mind. Don't work week to week without having a time to reflect. Sometimes you need to cancel some engagements. Spend time alone and reflect on where you are spiritually, physically, financially, materially and ministry wise. Its a time to re-strategise, set new goals ,identify your priorities in life and focus on what matters most to God and you.
To start the month of March, think of what you intend to do or habits to inculcate to ensure that you enjoy your weekends and most importantly live out each weekend with a sense of purpose and fulfilment.
Don't go through life with a sense of regret. Its ok to get away, to spoil your self, to do something fresh , adventurous and creative. When you explore other areas in your life, you discover more of your self.
The bible says; God gives us all things richly to enjoy. I believe you have worked hard. Its time to reward yourself. Value yourself enough to treat yourself well and give yourself a treat. You do deserve it.
Got to go, Watch out for my next post : My Golf Experience...
Have a splendid and fruitful month: HAPPY NEW MONTH to you all and may you keep marching forward in all your endeavours.
